Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek with Ghorepani is one of the ultimate trekking packages for adventure junkies looking for a wild and wondrous journey in the Annapurna Himalaya Range. After the disturbing road construction of the Annapurna Circuit, this trek has become one of the highlighted treks of Nepal.

This trek will take you to 4,990 meters (16,371ft), above the sea level in Manang district where Tilicho Lake is situated in the lap of Annapurna northern and Tilicho Peak 7,134 meters (23,405ft). Tilicho Lake is located 19.7 kilometres (12.2 miles) away from the beautiful Manang Village. Moreover, Tilicho Lake is also known as the highest lake in the world due to its wideness. The lake covers a total area of 4.8 square kilometres and formed by the melting of the glacier, Annapurna I, [8,091 meters/26,545ft], and Tilicho Peak [7,134 meters/23,405ft]. The unique colour and the divine calmness of the lake makes it more captivating. During mid-May to mid-September, the alpine flowers bloom throughout the Manang, which makes the entire region even more heavenly. The region has also got wildlife like blue sheep, vulture, and sometimes snow leopard also appears from nowhere.

Another destination of this trek will take you to the Ghorepani-Poon Hill 3,210 meters (10,531ft), which is one of the most popular trekking trails of Nepal. This region is rich in both culture and nature. The trail will be covered with lovely rhododendrons during April and May. From Poon - Hill, you can witness the most spectacular sunrise and sunset of your life with the backdrop of Annapurna Ranges 8,091 meters (26,545ft), Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167 meters (26,794ft), Mt. Manasalu 8,163 meters (26,781ft) 3 over 8,000 meters (26,246ft), mountains and several western Himalayan peaks.

Annapurna Circuit trek difficulty:

Annapurna Circuit trek is a moderately difficult trek which takes you to some of the most popular and exotic locations of Nepal. Since the highest point of this trek is 5416 meters (Thorong La Pass), this trek can get quite tough due to factors like altitude sickness, cold weather, snow-bound trails etc. Don’t worry though, with certain factors on check you can certainly go through this trek. Deciding the appropriate season or time to trek, taking proper trekking gears, maintaining a commendable physical fitness level and gaining some experience in trekking or walking in the rugged surface will help you a lot and make this trek more physically bearable and enjoyable for you

Best time for Annapurna circuit trek:

The best time for Annapurna Circuit trek is during the spring and Autumn season because of reasons like good weather and climatic condition, recommendable mountain visibility, trekking route safety etc. Furthermore, during Spring you might even witness the blossoming rhododendron and magnolia forest amidst the green lush forests. This trek is available throughout the year but summer and winter seasons are declared off season and you will have to take extra precaution regarding the trekking routes and trekking equipment if you decide to trek during this season.

Are you wondering about the meals and accommodation of Annapurna Circuit trek?  You will find that the meals and accommodations in Annapurna Circuit Trek will be of 3 categories as per the location i.e. Kathmandu, Pokhara and during the trek. In Kathmandu your meals and accommodation will be quite sophisticated as you will be accommodated in a 3-star category hotel with good rooms plus the meals will also be diverse given that you can pick from Nepal as well as continental menus. The meals and accommodations in Pokhara are pretty similar to that of Kathmandu. In the official trekking route, you will be staying in a lodge. You will be served 3 meals a day. Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1,350 meters/4,429ft], transfer to Hotel included breakfast.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted and welcomed by one of our representatives at the airport. Our representative or staff will then transfer you to the 3-star category hotel with meals and accommodation facilities. In the evening, we will host a dinner program in Nepali restaurant where you will get to enjoy the show/demonstration of Nepali culture. We will also debrief about how our Annapurna circuit trekking is going to pan out.

Day 02: Full day Sightseeing of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Today you shall spend the entire day exploring the heritage and attractions of Kathmandu valley like Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. These historical figures of Kathmandu are among the World heritage sites (UNESCO) and are popular for their religious values, great architectures and representation of Nepali diverse culture. After exploring these places, we will transfer you back to the hotel.

Day 03: Bus journey Chame [2,670 meters/8,760ft], 250 kilometers, 11 to 12hrs.

Today is quite a busy day since we will be heading to the Manang district (Chame to be precise) via a 12-hour drive. Don’t get upset or demotivated yet because the bus ride is filled with alluring and exciting mountain views of Ganesh Himal range, Buddha Himal, Rani peak etcetera. Besides this, you will also be looking at the other aspects of Nepal like green hills, cultivated lands, changing terrains, rivers and tributaries, dense forest, streams and so much more. We will stay overnight at a lodge in Besisahar-Chame.

Day 04: Trek to Pisang village [3,200 meters/10,498ft], 4 hours.

Pisang village is about 4 to 5 hours away from Chame in case you choose to walk. If you opt for drive, 45 to 60 minutes of drive will bring you to Pisang village located at an altitude of 3200 meters. As you inch closer to Pisang village, the trees and jungles start to disappear and you will witness the snowline and mountainous possession of Nepal. As you gain altitude, you will start getting the views of majestic Himalayas of Nepal like Annapurna II, Annapurna III and Annapurna IV. Overnight stay at a lodge or guesthouse in Pisang village.

Day 05: Trek to Manang [3,540 meters/11,614ft], along the upper viewing way, 9hrs.

Today is yet again another strenuous day which provides rewarding views and experience to the trekkers. We will leave behind the Pisang village via a trail alongside and sometimes over Marsyangdi River. Looking behind we will see wonderful views of Annapurna IV and Annapurna IV with Pisang valley nestled between them. We will cross large Buddhist chortens, Buddhist Mani and monasteries before finally arriving in Manang with Tibetan Gurung settlements. Overnight at a hotel in Manang.   

Day 06: Manang acclimatization day with a wonderful side trip. Overnight in the lodge.

Today, we will explore some interesting places around Manang valley. We will hike up Deurali hill 4,200 meters (13,779ft), for magnificent Chulu West Peak, Chulu East (a group of Manang Himal)  and others mountains view or fabulous side trips likewise Milarepa Cave and Ice Lake. Especially, we focus to hike up to Ice Lake for the captivating Mountain views. As you hike to Ice Lake located ar 5,200 meters (17,060 ft), to gain altitude you will notice marked substantial view of Manang, Tilicho Valley, and chain of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 07: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp 4,200 meters (13,779ft), 7/8 hours. Overnight at the lodge:

Leaving Manang village, we will trek through the village resided by Manangi people. On the way, we will pass by a few mani walls, cultivated farmlands, suspension bridge, monastery, Khangser village, and Shirikharka lodges. Furthermore, we will cross a steep scree rockfall slope to reach Tilicho Base Camp located at 4,150 meters (13,615ft).

Day 08: Trek to Tilicho Lake 4,990 meters (16,371 ft) and back to base camp 4,200 meters (13,779ft), walk 6 hours. Overnight at the lodge:

We will begin hiking early in the morning about 6 am to avoid a strong wind during the afternoon. Leaving of Tilicho base camp the trail gradually rise up to Tilicho offering magnificent backdrop views, such as a panoramic view of Mt. Manaslu, Ngadi Chuli, Peak 29, Mt. Kanggaru, Pisang Peak, Annapurna Himalaya Range, and others several mountains. As a matter of fact, Tilicho Lake is regarded as the world's highest lake. After visiting the beautiful lake, we return back to the Tilicho Base Camp via the same trail.

Day 09: A fabulous side trip of Tilicho lake, back to down Chuliledar 4,200 meters (13,779ft),  5 to 6 hours of walk. Overnight at the lodge:

From Tilicho base camp, we will follow a trail above Khangser village and pass through the ruins of old Khangser. Following an unnamed trail will lead us down to a river where we will cross that river on a wooden bridge between the Gumsang and Yak Kharka to reach Chuliledar.

Day 10: Push to Thorong High Camp [4,925 meters/16,158ft], 4 hours of walk.

From Chuli Ledar, we will climb gently up the way and cross the well-made suspension bridge over Kone Khola, scree, rock falls zones and frozen streams in winter to new Phedi and Yak and Blue sheep grazing lands along the trail. We will have to challenge ourselves a bit more and reach a small viewpoint on high camp. The top viewpoint provides extensive views of Chulu west trekking peak ( 6,419 meters) and also happens to be a highly demanding trekking peak in Annapurna classic circuit trekking route. Overnight at a lodge in Thorong High Camp.

Day 11: Thorong La pass [5,416 meters/17,769ft], descend to Muktinath [3,760m/12,335ft], 8hrs.

After early morning breakfast, we will head towards the Thorong La Pass situated at 5416 meters. Whilst trekking towards the Thorong La Pass, you will see several small as well as gigantic peaks. This pass is marked by serene eye-catching beauty, prayer flags and cairns. In the winter season, this pass is snowbound and looks absolutely breathtaking. After enjoying some precious moments in Thorong La Pass, we will trek back (mainly descend) to Phedi. We will trek further in the presence of dry and vivid views of Mustang valley plus the panoramas of Khatungkang peak (6'483 meters) and reach Muktinath where we will call it a day. Overnight stay at a lodge in Muktinath.

Day 12: Trek to Jomsom [2,720 meters/8,923ft], 7 hours of down way headquarter of Mustang.

We will depart from Muktinath and trek down to Jharkot and Kagbeni which are the main entry gateway of Upper Mustang valley. Encompassing the terraced fields, Nilgiri, Tilicho and so much more, the views that will be witnessed today are simply astounding. We will indulge in the sightseeing of Mustang for a while before making our way towards Jomsom. Jomsom is a famous and important tourist destination thanks to the natural appeals of this place as well as the infrastructures like banks, shops, internets, bus, jeep etc. We will celebrate our ongoing trek and stay overnight in Jomsom.

Day 13: Bus journey to Tatopani [1,190 meters/3,904ft], 3 to 4 hours.

Today is quite an easy day and we will take a 3 to 4 hours drive following the Kali Gandaki river. We will drive past Marpha, Tukuche, Largung and Kalopani. We will also cross several Thakali villages, apple gardens etc to eventually reach Tatopani where we will stay overnight.

Day 14: Climb to Ghorepani [2,860 meters/9,383ft], through Shika village 7 to 8 hours.

We will climb up the long ascent passing the beautiful villages and cultivated lands to reach Ghorepani Poon village. Ghorepani is surrounded by green lush forests like oak, pine and rhododendron trees. It is mesmerizing in early April to late May especially with the rhododendron and magnolia trees blooming throughout the hedgerows and the tree splashing the colour of joy and perfection. In the spring season, the whole landscape is dominated by a flourished jungle of rhododendron. Finally, we will reach Ghorepani Lodge walking off 7 to 8 hours in a continuous way. Our stay in Lodge includes dinner and breakfast with hot drink services like tea and coffee.

Day 15: Poon - hill [3,210 meters/10,530ft],  sunrise view, and trek down to Hille, drive Sarangkot.

Our goal today is to hike to Poonhill as soon as possible so that we can enjoy the best panoramic view from up there. The scenery of sunrise at the top of Annapurna Himalaya range, Mt. Dhaulagiri and Manaslu ranges are simply spectacular. The Pooh hill offers perfect panoramic views on a clear day. After some breath-taking views of the sunrise of Himalaya, we will switch back to Ghorepani Lodge.  After very meaningful hiking of Poon hill, we descend to Tikhedhunga - Hile (1,430 m ) passing the flourished jungle, and historical Gorkha army’s (Magar and Gurung) villages, Lodges and cultivated farmlands. In Hile, we will catch a jeep to Sarangkot and drive there for overnight stay.

Day 16: Trek to Lakeside Hotel [820 meters/2,690ft], 2 hours of vertical down way.

Sarangkot grants some of the best views of surrounding mountains like Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Lamjung Himalayan, and others peaks and enchanting Pokhara valley with captivating lakes. After relishing these views, we will descend down to the lakeside Hotel including breakfast service. Enjoy your leisure time sightseeing around the lakeside.

Day 17: Full day sightseeing around Pokhara valley like peace stupa, David falls.

Pokhara provides a variety of activities to indulge in like cycling tour, motorbiking, caving mountain flight, paragliding, boating, cycling tour, rafting, motorbiking tour etc. We can also take sightseeing tours around the peace stupa, lakeside, enigmatic caves of Pokhara valley, Davis falls, International mountain museum.

Day 18: Drive back to Kathmandu [1,350 meters/4,429ft], 6 to hours by tourist bus.

A scenic drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu will lead you back to Kathmandu. After 6 to 7 hours to ride, you will be escorted to the hotel room where you can take a refreshment break.  You will be staying overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 19: Departure to Home.

Our representative will escort, drop you to Tribhuvan International airport and see you off to your destination.

Introduction of the Trail:

You can take a bus, jeep, or motorcycle from Kathmandu for Manang. Within 10 to 12 hours of drive through the plain small settlements, towns, terraced fields, and farmlands you can reach Manang. The route will also include the Trishuli River, Marsyangdi River canyon valley, and enchanting landscapes. Manang is the hidden Buddhist town where you can find a bakery cafe, yak steak & burger, hot-shower facility, WIFI, and clean comfortable rooms. Trekkers should at least spend two days in Manang to get acclimatized with the altitude and also explore the region before moving further. You can go on a side trip to the Milarepa Cave, Ice Lake, or Gangapurna Lake. These side trips will help you to rejuvenate energy for the upcoming adventure.

After fabulous Tilicho lake trek, trip switches back to Shirikharka to cross challenging yet thrilling Thorong La Pass located at 5,416 meters (17,769ft). Crossing the pass, you will reach the arid valley of Mustang. The trail goes through Jomsom, the most gorgeous region of Nepal, Marpha, famous for it's Apple products, Kali Gandaki River, where you will see the deepest gorge of the worlds, Kali Gandaki Gorge, Tatopani, known for its natural hot spring, and finally take you to Ghorepani. Further, the trip continues to Pokhara, the city of adventure sports where one can do boating, paragliding, ultra-light flight, mountain biking, caving, and many other activities. After spending a day or two here, you will drive back to Kathmandu.
