Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is the best short trek of Nepal that takes you to the proximity of mountains of Nepal like Annapurna ranges, Dhaulagiri ranges and other mountains of Annapurna region. Popularly known as Annapurna Sunrise Trek, this trek starts from Pokhara valley of Nepal. This trek provides the best panoramic views of alpine lakes, pastures, hills and mountains. The main attraction of this Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is the outstanding sunrise views over the Annapurna mountains as seen from the Poonhill.

How difficult is Ghorepani Poonhill Trek?

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is an easy trek given its low altitude (less than 3500 meters). If you keep in your mind some factors like weather, fitness level, some expiring walking in uneven topography etc., you can easily go through with this trek. However, if you are not at all used to trekking on uneven surfaces, you might want to get some experience with that.

What is the best time to visit Ghorepani Poonhill Trek?

The best time to visit Ghorepani Poonhill trek is during September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May. These months are popular for trekking in the Ghorepani Poonhill region because of clear skies, safe and risk-free trials, good weather conditions, great mountain views etcetera. However, the best time for Ghorepani Poonhill trekking also depends upon the preference of the trekkers as well. For instance, if you don’t prefer cold, you might want to skip Winter months, if you prefer blooming rhododendron, you should go for Spring, if you prefer silent trekking routes, you might find Spring and Autumn too crowded and so on.

What are the Meal and accommodation like?

During this tour, you will be served 3 meals a day which you can pick from an open Menu as per your choice and preference. The meals that you can pick from are bread with jam or honey, rice pudding, oats porridge with fruits, boiled egg or scrambled egg, vegetable or cheese omelette, French or plain toast, vegetable fried potato etc. for breakfast. Likewise, your meal option for lunch and dinner will have meals options like spaghetti with cheese or vegetables, veg fried rice or meat fried rice, Dal Bhaat set (veg or non-veg), roasted potatoes with hot sauce, pasta, pizza, Momo, veg and non-veg soup etcetera.

Talking about accommodation, in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, you will be accommodated in a decent hotel with proper amenities. During the trekking route, you will be accommodated in a lodge or guesthouse.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport [1,350m/4,429ft], transfer to Hotel.

Day 02: Full day Valleys sightseeing like Patan, Bhaktapur, Boudhanath.

Day 03: Bus journey to Pokahora [820 meters/2,690ft], 200km, 7hrs. 

Day 04: Drive to Hille [1,220 meters/4,002ft], trek to Ulleri [1,960 meters/6,430ft], 8hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani [2,860 metres/9,383ft], 7 hours of walk through Oak.

Day 06: Hike to Poon - hill [3,210 meters/10,530ft], sun rise view, trek to Tadapani [2,630m/8,628ft].

Day 07: Trek to Ghandrung [1,940 meters/6,364ft], walk 6 hours.

Day 08 Journey to Sarangkot [1,552 meters/5,092ft], drive to Nau danda trek to Sarangkot.

Day 09: Trek to Lakeside Hotel [820 meters/2,690ft], 2 hours.

Day 10: Full day sightseeing around Pokhara valley, for instance, Shanti Stupa, Davis Fall, and many more.

Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu [1,350 meters/4,429ft], 6 hours.

Day 12: Finally, Departure Day.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu international airport [1,350 meters /4,429ft], transfer to Hotel included breakfast service:

Following your landing in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, the representative from Himalayan Diamond Adventure will have reached there to welcome you. Our representative will pick you, help you collect your luggage and drop you off to the hotel room. We will host a welcome dinner in the Nepali cultural dance restaurant where you can enjoy national and international cuisines. The hotel service includes bed and breakfast.

Day 02:  Sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley via a private vehicle:

Kathmandu presents a wonderful mixture of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence via its heritage sites like Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Syambhunath, Boudhanath, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The biggest Hindu shrine Pashupatinath temple is a very revered pilgrimage site where thousands of devotees pay a visit. Likewise, the largest Buddhist stupa in town i.e. Boudhanath is also on a “to visit list” today. The exquisite and antique 15th century 55 windows- palace Bhaktapur and Swayambhunath stupa are among other sites we will give a shot. In the evening, a trip orientation meeting will be organized after which you will be escorted back to the hotel room.

Day 03: A scenic bus journey to Pokhara [820 meters/2,690ft], 200km, 7hrs transfer to Hotel included breakfast service:

Today we will head towards another famous tourist destination of Nepal i.e. Pokhara via a tourist bus which takes us about 7 hours.  Along the way, you might witness mountain terrain view such as Ganesh Himalaya range, Bhauda Himal, Rani peak, group of Himalchuli, Ngadi chuli, Manasalu, Lamjung, Machhapuchhare, Annapurna III, Annapurna II, Annapurna south and may others mountains. In addition to these, the land is also rich for landscape, some common yet elegant landscape of cultivated lands, Trisuli river, Marsyangdi river, hydro powers, waterfalls, green hills etc. are also on line today. Upon arrival, we will check into a hotel in Pokhara. With your leisure time, you can either go street roaming, lakeside walk or just take some time in the hotel room.

Day 04: Drive Jeep or tourist bus to Hille 1,220 meters (4,002ft), the trek starts at Ulleri 1,960 meters (6,430ft), about 7 hours. Overnight at the lodge:

We will enjoy a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul for about 1 hour and 30 minutes after which our trek will officially begin to Hille. Depending upon the client’s physical fitness, this will take us about 3 hours of walking along the off-road trail etc. The trail passes through several settlements and farmer’s cultivated lands, such as rice fields, potato, barley, maize, and vegetables. The trail continuously passes following up the north bank of Burundi Khola and villages (astounding views are waiting for you here) to Hile - Tikhedhungga. We will continue trekking and reach Ulleri region where we will stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani [2,860 metres/9,383ft], 7 hours of walk through Oak, rhododendron green lush forest. Overnight at the lodge:

We will commence trekking towards Ghorepani [2,860 meters/9,383ft]. Ghorepani is an enchanting and the most touristic place in this Annapurna region which is located amid Himalayas. Leaving from Ulleri, our steps will continue to ascend through oak, rhododendron and magnolia forest towards Banthanti at [2,250 meters/7,381ft], Nangethati [2,460 meters/8,070ft]. This will eventually lead us to Ghorepani, a large Poon Magar inhabited settlement. Along the way we have a splendid landscape of hills, forest curled up trail plus the magnificent view of Machhapuchhre Himal. After continuing walking off 7 hours, we will reach Ghorepani. Where we will spend overnight at a lodge that includes Breakfast, and Dinner with hot drink services like tea and coffee.

Day 06: Head for Poon - hill [3,210 meters/10,530ft], sun rise view and trek down to Tadapani [2,630 meters/8,628ft], 7 to 8 hours of walk. Overnight in Lodge:

 We will wake up early in the morning (at dawn) and hike up to Poon Hill [3,210 meters/10,531ft], to enjoy the best sunrise panoramic views from Poonhill.  The panoramas of Annapurna Himalaya range, Mt. Dhaulagiri and Manaslu with the first sun rays hitting on them is hauntingly beautiful. After some breath-taking views of Dhaulagiri massifs and surrounding fields and hills from Poon hill, we will switch back to Ghorepani Lodge and meet in the dining room for a hot breakfast. After this, we will trek to Tadapani under the rhododendron, dwarf bamboo, oak and pine jungle with eye-catching landscapes. We will spend overnight at a lodge in Tadapani which includes dinner and breakfast service.

Day 07: Trek to Ghandruk [1,940 meters/6,364ft], 6 hours of downhill walk under the rhododendron covered green lush forest. Overnight at the lodge:

Departing from Tadapani, we will descend and trek to another popular village of the route called Ghandruk.  In Ghandruk, you will see a large Gurung community, which is one of the ethnic groups of Nepal. They have their own dialect, unique culture, costume, and lifestyle away from the touch of modernization. This village is a popular tourist destination that offers beautiful mountain views and has an easy connection with Pokhara or Kathmandu. Overnight at Lodge includes dinner and breakfast with hot drink services like tea and coffee.

Day 08: Journey towards Sarangkot [1,552 meters/5,092ft], drive to Nau danda and trek to Sarangkot, the bird’s eye view. Overnight at the lodge:

After leaving from Ghandruk village we will continue trekking downhill along the stone staircase to reach jeep station, Kimche. We will drive up to Nau danda overlooking the terraced farmlands and other villages of the trekking routes like Tikhedhunga, Nayapul. Driving off for an hour and half, we will reach Naudanda and then trek to Sarangkot which will take us 2 hours. Sarangkot is a very popular trekking choice accessible from Pokhara which offers captivating mountain views, serenity and glorious Pokhara valley landscape. We will spend overnight at a guesthouse that includes dinner and breakfast service.

Day 09: Trek to Lakeside Hotel, [820 meters/2,690ft], 2 hours of walk vertical way. Hotel included breakfast service:

After an incredible tour teeming with the outstanding sight of surrounding mountains such as Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Lamjung Himalayan and others peaks and enchanting Pokhara valley with captivating lakes, we will descend down to the lakeside hotel for an overnight stay that includes breakfast service. You can indulge in sightseeing around the lakeside.

Day 10: Full day sightseeing around Pokhara valley like peace stupa, David falls and International museum:

Pokhara is known for being a gateway to the famous Annapurna region,  white snow capped mountains and green hills, Pokhara is also suitable for some exhilarating outdoor adventure activities like paragliding, boating, cycling, caving and mountain flight. You can get indulged in these activities. With the free time, we will visit Pokhara valley, peace stupa, International mountain museum, lakeside and Mahendra cave.

Day 11: Drive back to Kathmandu [1,350 meters/4,429ft], 6 hours by tourist bus and transfer to Hotel included breakfast service:

After a fabulous Annapurna circuit classic trek, we will enjoy a 7-hour scenic drive and return back to Kathmandu. You will be escorted back to the hotel that includes breakfast service. At around 6, we will pick you up and drop you in a Nepali cultured restaurant for farewell dinner.

Day 12: Finally, the Departure Day:

We will drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport via tourist bus and bid you goodbye. Farewell.

Like a Black Diamond, Helmet, Harness, Crampon, Jumar ATC guide or Figure of 8, Ice axe, Carabiners, and La Sportiva alpine boot.

We provide you with sufficient and hygienic meals and dessert with hot drinks as your choice and book clean and comfortable rooms (hotel) on a mountain in advance of your trip to mountain lodges.
