Best time for Gokyo lake Renjo La Pass Trekking

Just like other treks and climbs in this region like Island Peak Climb or Mera Peak Climb, the best time for Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass trekking spring and Autumn season. The trekking trail, visibility of mountains, overall- panoramas and weather; all are at best during Spring and Autumn season. If you are drawn flowers and you also want sight to blooming rhododendron, the spring months are even more felicitous for you.

However, some adventurers who prefer to trek in solitary season might find this season a little bit crowded. Also, the lodges might already be packed so if you are an independent trekker, you might want to book early.

Summer season might get somewhat inconvenient for Gokyo Lake Renjo La Pass trek because of the rainfall. Because of this, some trails might be ruined and blocked in this season. The trekking routes might be slippery and there might be leeches as well. The early month of summer i.e. June is preferred by some trekkers.

While trekking you will stay in a safe and sound lodge along the trails. Even if these lodges are not as advanced as the hotel, they provide every necessary amenity so as to make your stay comfortable. Places like Namche Bazar have rooms with attached bathrooms, and other facilities like hot water, Wi-Fi etc. The meals during the trek will be warm and cozy. The soup will keep you warm and help you fight against altitude sickness while you are on the trek. The foods will be fresh and made from hygienic raw materials. Some options that you can pick from are plan toast, scrambled egg, boiled egg and chana, Vegetarian or non-vegetarian Daal-bhaat set, chapati, vegetable soup, porridge, hot beverages like coffee, tea and hot lemon, Momo, noodles and so much more.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport 1,350m (4,429 ft), transfer to hotel.

Upon your landing in Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu, one of the representatives of Himalayan Diamond Adventures will kindly pick you up, collect your luggage and escort you to a decent hotel room in Thamel area. You can get refreshed and take leisure time in your hotel room. In the evening, you will be attending a welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with cultural dance and all sorts of delicious cuisines. We will also provide you briefs of the trekking program ahead of us. Overnight stay at a 3-star category in the hotel.

Accommodation: 3 Stars standard of Hotel in Thamel.

Transportation: Tourist bus or car.

Meals: Welcome Dinner, Breakfast, and including drinks.

Day 02: Take off to Lukla & trek begins at Phakding 2,610m (8,563 ft) 2. 5hrs.

After a delectable breakfast in the morning, we will have to head for Lukla. For this, we will go to the domestic section of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and then take a flight to Lukla. This thrilling flight is about 35 minutes long and on a clear day, this flight offers us magnificent views of the snow-covered peaks located in Eastern Nepal.

We will land in Lukla Hillary airport (2860 m); one of the airports located at the highest altitude. Our destination for today is Phakding for which we will have to trek for about 3 hours from Lukla. Our trek commenced with a gentle climb through the left bank of Dudh Koshi river. Our trek today will be accompanied by the green landscape and panoramas of Kusam Kangguru (6367 m). We will pass through several lodges, shops, monasteries, several tributaries, pastures and cultivated lands, prayer stones, mani walls etcetera. We will ascend and descend leaving behind the Sherpa village, we will arrive at the lodge in which we are to stay overnight.

Maximum Elevation: 2,860m (9,383 ft).

Trekking hours: 2.5 hours, 200m descent, 50m ascent.

Accommodation: Lodge.

Meals: Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast with hot drinks.

Day 03: From Phakding trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440m/ (11,286 ft), About 5hrs.

Third day of our trip, we will trek following the Dudh Koshi river amongst the Himalayan pine, Deodar cedar forests so as to arrive at Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is the popular tourist hub of Himalayan region and the village of Namche happens to be a historic trading post where trade for salt, dried meat and textiles takes place between Nepali and Indian traders. We will trek for about 5 hours to arrive at Namche Bazaar from Phakding. We will trek over sparkling waters of Dudh Koshi river. We will cross Hillary bridge along with other 4 suspension bridges, rhododendron and pine forest, Mani walls, numerous waterfalls before finally entering Namche Bazar. While passing through the forest, we might get lucky and witness the wild animals like Himalayn goat (Thar), Jharals, musk deer, Himalayan Pheasant Lophophorus (Danphe) etc. We will have to present and register our permits in the checkpoint at Sagarmatha’s National Park main entry gate. We will take lunch break in Jorsalle and then we will continue trekking.

Namche Bazar is also called Sherpa Capital and it boasts both natural and cultural appeal. You will find plenty of luxurious Hotels, banks, shops, trekking equipment, and climbing gears, bakery, and café, bar-restaurant etcetera in Namche Bazaar in addition to the governmental administrative offices for Sagarmatha Pollution Control Community (SPCC) with Internet services. We will be staying in Namche Bazar for 2 nights so that we can acclimatize well.

Elevation: 3,440 meters (11,286 ft).

Trekking hours: 5 hours, 1000m ascent, 100m descent.

Accommodation: Lodge the attached bathroom.

Meals: B, L, D with hot drinks.

Day 04: Side trip to Everest view Hotel 3,870m (12,697 ft), and Khumjung.

Fourth day is for acclimatization purposes. For this we will explore some exquisite places in the periphery of Namche Bazar. We will hike to Everest View Hotel located at 3870 meters. We will get magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Twache and several other adjoining peaks from Everest view hotel. Everest View Hotel is one of the prime attractions of Everest region and also this tour. Other than Everest View Hotel, we will explore the lovely Khumjung village. After enjoying some splendid views of Khumjung village and taking a look into Shera lifestyle, we will return back to our lodge. We can also use leisure time at hand and explore Thame valley.

Day 05: Trek to Phortse Thanga 3,680m (12,073 ft), 4 - 5 hours.

After a delicious and warm breakfast, we will check out from the lodge in Namche Bazar for Phortse Thanga. Initially the trekking trail is like a highway, so the trek is quite easy. We will trek for about 2 hours along the Everest Base Camp trekking route. After this, we will ascend steeply uphill to Mongla Danda 3,900 meters (12,795 ft), with spectacular surrounding mountain views. In addition to being absolutely stunning, this trail is very serene and soothing. Mongla Danda offers magnetic views and hence is one of the best viewpoints of the region. We will stop at the peripheral hotels for a hot lunch and rest for a while. We will then continue marching down to Phortse Thenga ravine valley which is located on the bank of Dudh Khola. We will stay here overnight.

Trekking duration: 4 hours, ascent 530m, descent 290m.

Day 06: From Phortse Thanga trek to Machhermo  4,470m (14,665 ft), 7 hours.

We will have to gain some serious altitude today and also trek for about 7 hours to reach Macchermo located at 4470 meters. Our journey commences as we climb a steep hill so as to reach Dole village. We will observe stunning verdant forests of blue pine, rhododendron and birch as we ascend. About 3 hours of trek will bring us to Dole after which the trekking trail gets quite easier. Continuing, we will trek uphill for a while and reach Laphorma village. This village is inhabited by the Sherpas. We will trek past hillside tundra, scattered scrub junipers and even some barren pastures. On our way to Macchermo, we will witness several mountain views but the highlight will be the one of Mount Cholatse.

Trekking duration: 6 hours, ascent 730m.

Day 07: Trek to Gokyo Lake 4,790m (15,715 ft), 4 hours.

We will climb a ridge so as to reach Gokyo from Machhermo. The beauty of Gokyo lake is something words can’t do justice. The turquoise color and mesmerizing reflections of mountains in these placid lakes are just spectacular. To reach Gokyo lake we will trek for about 4 hours on an uphill trail that comprises moraines and rock cairns. In our trekking route today, we will see the view of Mount Cholatse (6335 m), north Cho Oyu (8201 m), Ngoxumpa glacier and so much more.

In addition to this, the view of Gokyo lake with the snow-covered mountains on the background is another attraction of today. You will find many lodges lined up on the bank of third lake. This is where we will be staying overnight. The seventh day of your trip is bound to give you memories that you will cherish a lifetime.

Day 08: Hike to Gokyo Ri 5,380m (17,650 ft), the best viewpoint.

Our goal for today is to enjoy the sunset views from Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is without doubts one of the best viewpoints of the region if not the best. Furthermore, the sunset view acts as a cherry on the top. We will trek for about 3 hours from our lodge in Gokyo lake to reach Gokyo Ri (5380 m). From the apogee of Gokyo Ri, the views of over 8,000 meters mountains like Mt. Cho Oyu 8,201 meters (26,906 ft), Mt. Everest 8,848 meters (29,029 ft), Mt. Lhotse 8,516 meters (27,939 ft), and Mt. Makalu 8,463 meters (27,765 ft) is clear and absolutely gorgeous. Besides these mountains, Gokyo Ri also offers incomparably picturesque views of Gokyo lakes and Ngozumpa glacier.

Trekking hours: 3 hours, 570m ascent, 570 descent.

Accommodation: Lodge.

Day 09: Gokyo - Renjo La 5,360 meters (17,585 ft) and back to Thame 8-9 hrs.

Ninth day of our tour will be quite busy and demanding one which would require us to trek for about 9 hours. So, we will start our day at dawn and trail up to reach Renjo La pass at 5360 meters. About 4 hours off walking uphill in a glacier trail (we will also pass a snowfield in way), we will reach Renjo La pass; the most picturesque top which offers dazzling vistas of Everest region. The top of the world- Mt. Everest- itself, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Taboche can be seen sparkling in the sun. Continuing on from the Pass, the trail winds down a stone staircase and then scrambles over loose scree to reach the south bank of a small lake called Angladumba Tsho.

After we get past Renjo La, we will reach Lungde after trekking for a while. There are accommodation options available in Lunge. However, we can trek further downhill until we reach Thame since Thame provides better options for accommodation and meals. This will also make the tenth day quite easier on you.

Day 10: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 meters (11,280 ft), about 4 hours.

We will continue trekking towards Namche Bazaar quite late today after enjoying a delicious meal in Thame. We will leave behind the beautiful Thame village and head towards Namche. We will visit a beautiful gompa/monastery while we are trekking down to Namche. Finally, we will pass through the pine and rhododendron mixed forest with stunning backdrop views of Teng Kangpoche and Papchhermo and opposite Kwangde peak as part of our trekking trail.You will be staying overnight in pleasant rooms with services like charging, Wi-Fi, attached bathroom in Namche Bazar.

Day 11: Namche Bazaar - Lukla 2,860 meters (9,175 ft), 7-8 hrs.

We will retrace our previous steps to return back to Lukla from Namche Bazar. Then, our trail gradually rises and drops to reach Lukla. We will descend through the national Park forest to the meeting of Bhote Koshi and Dudh Koshi River along with the trail to cross the bridge. After this, we will walk along the DudhKoshi river bank through the Sherpa Village, to the Jorsale, Monjo and Phakding.

We will take a stop somewhere in between for lunch and then continue trekking to Lukla. We will be staying at a lodge overnight.

Elevation: 2,860 meters (9,383 ft).

Trekking hours: 8 hours, 960m descent, 250m ascent.

Day 12: Fly to Kathmandu 1,350 meters (4,429 ft), transfer to the hotel.

After one hell of a trekking journey, we will fly to Kathmandu via a domestic Lukla to Kathmandu flight. You will be transferred to your hotel room in Thamel where you will stay overnight.

Elevation: 1,350 meters (4,429 ft).

Transportation: Airplane / Tourist bus/ Car.

Accommodation: 3 Stars standard of Hotel in Thamel.

Meals: Breakfast.

Day 13: Valley sightseeing world heritage sites.

We will sightsee some major attractions of Kathmandu valley which also happen to the renown UNESCO world heritage sites. These attractions are Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swambhunath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square. We will try to visit as much of these landmarks as possible today. Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are revered Buddhist heritages of Nepal. Likewise, Pashupatinath is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva: Hindu mythology god. All these buildings represent magnificent architecture and cultural values of Nepal.

Transportation: Tourist Bus.

Permits: Entry Permits of Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu.

Accommodation: 3 Stars standard of Hotel in Thamel.

Meals: Farewell Dinner and Breakfast.

Day 14: Final departure.

We will escort you to Tribhuvan International airport and depart ways.
