The classic Gokyo fifth lake including Chola La pass and Everest Base Camp Trek has become high demanding adventurous trail among them numerous trekking routes of Nepal. The Gokyo Fifth Lake Trekking lies in Sagarmatha National Park, the Everest area in eastern and northern part of Nepal.
This trip is very famous for turquoise lakes, challenging Chola pass [5,368 meters/17,611ft], and the world’s famous Everest Base Camp. After successful scale of the Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953, and Khumbu valley has been become a more touristic destination, due to its unbelievable beauty of nature, the uniqueness of Buddhist culture, and warm hospitality Sherpa people. At the moment hundreds and thousands of tourists visit in Khumbu valley every season.
The classic Gokyo, Chola Pass, and Everest Base Camp Trek offer glowing White Mountains views and very stimulating trip. The region is rich in flora and fauna. Introduction of the Trail
Our journey begins with the 35 minutes of scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla Hillary airport 2,860 meters (9,383ft). From here, we will trek along the Dudh Koshi River, and reach Namche Bazaar (the capital of Sherpa people) through the famous mountaineer Sherpa villages and dense forests. We will go through villages like Phakding, Manju, Khumjung, Dole, and Machhermo before reaching Namche Bazar.
During the trip, the trail passes countless Buddhist people inhabited villages and the mani walls, beautifully carved prayer stones, prayer flags, gompas, shops, Sherpa’s cultivated farmlands, jungle, tributaries, and well-made suspension bridges with breathtaking mountain views. And then not touching the Everest base camp trail, we will continue trekking from Kyangjuma to Gokyo fifth Lake then get into Gokyo valley where we will explore the fifth Lake, huge Ngozumpa glacier along with panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Lhotse.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport [1,350 meters/4,429ft], transfer to hotel:
Welcome to the land of white glowing mountains. Before your landing in Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, the representative from Himalayan Diamond Adventure will have reached there to welcome you. You will have welcome dinner in Nepali cultural dance restaurant with your guide’s briefing about the day program tomorrow. The hotel service includes bed and breakfast.
Day 02: Scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla & trek to Phakding village [2,610 meters/8,563ft]; 2.5 hrs:
We will have 35 minutes of scenic flight in the morning from Kathmandu to Lukla Hillary airport, the most famous airport in the world. If the weather is favorable, during the flight, we will be sightseeing the most magnificent and sensational view of northern and eastern Himalaya vistas before our landing in Lukla airstrip [2,860 meters/9,383ft].
After a few minutes’ of a short break in the Lukla Bazaar, we set out to scenic journey to Phakding village. The entire track crosses through famous mountaineering Sherpa villages, lodges, shops, gompas (monasteries), mani walls, prayer stones, prayer flags, and more than two well-made suspension bridges with the fascinating landscape on the way to Phakding. Today, we spend overnight at Phakding in a lodge.
Day 03: Head to Namche Bazaar [3,440 meters/11,286ft], 5 hours:
Today, we trek to Namche Bazaar [3,440 meters/11,286ft], the main entrance gateway of Khumbu valley and the capital of Sherpa people. Today, we walk about 5 to 6 hours to reach Namche Bazaar from the Phakding village. The trail more slightly ascends up following Dudh Koshi River to confluence (Dovan) of Buddha Koshi and Bhote Koshi River. Finally, we push up strenuous uphill via weaving trail to Namche Bazaar.
We will cross 5 well-made suspension bridges including Hillary Bridge and few small wooden bridges, Sherpa settlements, mani walls, prayer stones, waterfalls, rhododendron, and blue pine forests. While walking on the way, probably the wild animals and birds can be appeared such as Himalayan goat (Thar), Jharal, musk deer and Himalayan pheasant Lophophorus (Danphe) a colorful bird.
Day 04: Hike over Everest view Hotel the tree line [3,870m/12,697 ft], sightseeing of Khumjung village:
After breakfast, we go on a hike to the Everest View Hotel, located at [3,870 meters/12,697ft] for stunning Mountain panorama of Amadablam, Thamserku, Lhotse, the Everest, and Tukche. Then our trip continues for the worth sightseeing of Khumjung valley. After a wonderful side trip, we head back to Namche Bazaar. Finally, we visit the mountain museum in Namche. We stay in a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 05: Trek to Phortse thanga [3,680 meters/12,073ft], walk 4 – 5 hours:
After a usual breakfast, we leave for Phortse Thanga [3,680 meters/12,073ft]. We make trek along the Everest base camp trekking route at the beginning parts, and then we steeply ascend up to Mong Danda [3,900 meters/12,795ft], more scenic and sensational way. Mong Danda is a fabulous point for panoramic view. Such as Porsche village, Tengboche monastery, Pangboche, and Amadablam valley. From Mong hill, the trail descends to Phortse Tenga ravine land. Phortse Tenga lies in the bank of Dudh Khola. We spend overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 06: Trek to Machhermo [4,470 meters/14,665ft], walk 7 hours:
After breakfast, our trek continues to climb uphill to Dole village through the shady pine and rhododendron forest. After passing a few lodges, the trail ascends to Machhermo, a Sherpa inhabited settlement through wilderness yak pasture lands with magnificent Mountain View. Today, the track crosses the dense rhododendron, pine and juniper forest below of Dole village, and then wide pasture lands and Sherpa lodges. Overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 07: Trek to Gokyo Lake [4,790 meters/15,715ft], walk 4 hours:
Today, we trek to Gokyo Lake [4,790 meters/15,715ft]. It’s dramatically beauty with turquoise and calmness will amaze you. The lodges are scattered in the bank of the fifth lake. We gradually ascend way up for a short walk, then our trail moves to edge of Dudh Koshi Khola. And wide gentle valley.
Walking off halfway, we reach Ngozumpa glacier from where we will see beautiful lakes with the glorious mountain view. After crossing the fourth turquoise lakes, we reach Gokyo town. We spend overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 08: Hike to Gokyo Ri [5,380 meters/17,650ft], for the bird’s eye view. Stay at Gokyo fifth Lake:
After breakfast, we trek steeply up way to Gokyo Ri [5,380 meters/17,650ft], for captivating mountain view. On a clear day, we can see views of 4 over [8,000m/26,246ft], mountains like Mt. Cho Oyu [8,201 meters/26,906ft], Mt. Everest [8,848 meters/29,029ft], Mt. Lhotse [8,516 meters/27,939ft], and Mt. Makalu [8,463 meters/27,765ft], along with breathtaking landscape of Ngozumpa glacier and beautiful Lakes. We stay at Gokyo lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 09: Exploration of Ngozumpa glacier and trek to Thagnag [4,700 meters/15,419ft], glacial walk about 2 hours:
After breakfast, we hike to Fifth Lake following up the edge of the Ngozumpa glacier in the morning. Further, we leave to Thagnag (4,700 meters/15,420ft) the last settlement before we move towards Cho La Pass. We traverse onto the Ngozumpa glacier and moraine making the long walk, then the trail moves to Thagnag neither up nor down to reach Thyagraj today. We stay at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 10: Trek rises up to Cho La pass [5,375 meters/17,634ft], and descend to Dzongla [4,830 meters/15,846ft], walk 7 hours:
Leaving from Thangnag, the trail gently ascends to Cho La pass [5,375 meters/17,634ft] and then descends to Dzungla valley. Total walking off 7 hours, we reach to Dzungla Lodge from Thagnag lodge. The pass is full of crevasses, rock, and snow falls. We stay at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 11: Trek to Gorapse [5,171 meters/16,965ft], walk 6 hours, the famous Everest base camp trail:
After breakfast, we begin our trek towards the famous Everest Base Camp trekking route. Leaving from Dzongla, our route straightly move towards to Labuche, and then the trail slightly ascends up following the edge of Khumbu glacier continue to Gorapse, the last permanent settlement of Everest base camp trek. Today, our trekking route passes stone gravel, massive stones, with magnificent towering peaks view. Overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 12: Trek to Everest base camp [5,364 meters/17,598ft], walk 08 hours and back to Lobuche Lodge:
Today, we climb up to Kalapathar [5,550m/18,208ft], early in the morning for superb Everest Mountain view. It will be a lifetime experience to be at (5,550 meters/18,208ft), and in front of the world’s highest peak. After breakfast, we hike to Mt. Everest base camp [5,364 meters/17,98ft]. The track crosses moraines, rock fall zones, and after scrambling onto the moraine reach to Everest base camp. After a breathtaking landscape, we trek back to Labuce Lodge. We spend overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 13: Trek to Tengboche [3,940 meters/12,598ft], walk 6 hours, we head back to down by via Pheriche lodges:
Today, we head back to Pangboche village [3,940 meters/12,598ft], via the same route. And whole day, the trail gently drops to Pangboche lodge following downstream with a magnificent view of Mt. Ama Dablam and many other mountains. Overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 14: Trek to Namche Bazaar [3,440 meters/11,286ft], walk 5 hours:
After breakfast, we trek back to Namche Bazaar following the same way. Leaving from Pangboche, the trail drops to following downstream for short walk then trail rises up to Tengboche monastery, and then trail steeply drops to Dudh Kosi River. Further, crossing the well-made suspension bridge over Dudha kosi River, the trail moves to Namche gently ascending up. Overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 15: Trek Lukla [2,860 meters/9,383ft], walk 8 hours:
Leaving from Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital, we descend steeply downhill to the meeting point of Dudh Kosi River and Bhote Kosi River. Then, the trail weaves up and down many times before reaching Lukla. Overnight at a lodge (service includes dinner and breakfast with a hot drink like tea and coffee).
Day 16: We take a scenic flight Lukla to Kathmandu [1,350 meters/4,429ft]:
Today, we have a scenic flight Lukla to Kathmandu airport. After reaching Kathmandu, we will move to our hotel included bed and breakfast service. Evening farewell dinner with tourist standard restaurant.
Day 17 - 18: Contingency day there is no guarantee that we will have favorable weather on our tentative day 16 to have flight, so need some spare days to cover our program:
If the flight gets cancelled due to the bad weather or any technical problem we need some spare days to cover our program. After missing flight schedule time in Himalaya region, there is a very less chance to get flight Lukla to Kathmandu, so we have got another alternative way is take a helicopter or trek to down Phaplu – Salleri for two days fantastic trek and Jeep drive back to Kathmandu Hotel.
Day 19: Full day Sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley [1,350 meters/4,429ft]:
Kathmandu, being a (UNESCO world’s heritage sites), the historical and cultural heart of Nepal, is a popular destination for tourists, trekkers, and adventure seekers. The city presents a wonderful mixture of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur are its two major neighboring cities which bear immense historical, cultural, and religious significance. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous & biggest Hindu shrine Pashupatinath temple, the largest Buddhist stupa in town Boudhanath, the 15th-century palace of 55 windows Bhaktapur, and Swayambhunath stupa. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner.
Day 20: Departure for home, say goodbye:
We drop you in Tribhuvan International Airport in the terminal room as per your flight departure time by tourist Bus or a Car and say goodbye.
