Annapurna Tilicho Lake Trek with Ghorepani is one of the ultimate trekking packages for adventure junkies looking for a wild and wondrous journey in the Annapurna Himalaya Range. After the disturbing road construction of the Annapurna Circuit, this trek has become one of the highlighted treks of Nepal.

This trek will take you to 4,990 meters (16,371ft), above the sea level in Manang district where Tilicho Lake is situated in the lap of Annapurna northern and Tilicho Peak 7,134 meters (23,405ft). Tilicho Lake is located 19.7 kilometers (12.2 miles) away from the beautiful Manang Village. Moreover, Tilicho Lake is also known as the highest lake in the world due to its wideness. The lake covers a total area of 4.8 square kilometers and formed by the melting of the glacier, Annapurna I, [8,091 meters/26,545ft], and Tilicho Peak [7,134 meters/23,405ft]. The unique color and the divine calmness of the lake makes it more captivating. During mid-May to mid-September, the alpine flowers bloom throughout the Manang, which makes the entire region even more heavenly. The region has also got wildlife like blue sheep, vulture, and sometimes snow leopard also appears from nowhere.

Another destination of this trek will take you to the Ghorepani-Poon Hill 3,210 meters (10,531ft), which is one of the most popular trekking trails of Nepal. This region is rich in both culture and nature. The trail will be covered with lovely rhododendrons during April and May. From Poon - Hill, you can witness the most spectacular sunrise and sunset of your life with the backdrop of Annapurna Ranges 8,091 meters (26,545ft), Mt. Dhaulagiri 8,167 meters (26,794ft), Mt. Manasalu 8,163 meters (26,781ft) 3 over 8,000 meters (26,246ft), mountains and several western Himalayan peaks.

Introduction of the Trail:

You can take a bus, jeep, or motorcycle from Kathmandu for Manang. Within 10 to 12 hours of drive through the plain small settlements, towns, terraced fields, and farmlands you can reach Manang. The route will also include the Trishuli River, Marsyangdi River canyon valley, and enchanting landscapes. Manang is the hidden Buddhist town where you can find a bakery cafe, yak steak & burger, hot-shower facility, WIFI, and clean comfortable rooms. Trekkers should at least spend two days in Manang to get acclimatized with the altitude and also explore the region before moving further. You can go on a side trip to the Milarepa Cave, Ice Lake, or Gangapurna Lake. These side trips will help you to rejuvenate energy for the upcoming adventure.

After fabulous Tilicho lake trek, trip switches back to Shirikharka to cross challenging yet thrilling Thorong La Pass located at 5,416 meters (17,769ft). Crossing the pass, you will reach the arid valley of Mustang. The trail goes through Jomsom, the most gorgeous region of Nepal, Marpha, famous for it's Apple products, Kali Gandaki River, where you will see the deepest gorge of the worlds, Kali Gandaki Gorge, Tatopani, known for its natural hot spring, and finally take you to Ghorepani. Further, the trip continues to Pokhara, the city of adventure sports where one can do boating, paragliding, ultra-light flight, mountain biking, caving, and many other activities. After spending a day or two here, you will drive back to Kathmandu. This professionally designed 18 days trip will allow you to go back home with numerous memories that will last with you for the lifetime.

Trip Highlights

The total length of the route varies between 160–230 km (100-145 mi), depending on where motor transportation is used and where the trek is ended.

Annapurna Tilicho and Ghorepani Poon-hill Trip can be done within 9 to 10 days, with 4 to 8 hours of walk each day.

You will witness Tilicho Lake 4,919 meters, the lake situated at the highest altitude in Nepal.

You will traverse through the Thorong La Pass 5,416 meters, among the challenging passes in the Annapurna region.

Along with the Lake trip, you will join the route to the cultural and spiritual spot ie Muktinath temple.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1,350 meters (4,429 ft), transfer to tourist standard Hotel included breakfast service by tourist bus or in car:

Fly to Kathmandu along the northern border of Nepal on a clear day is in itself an exciting and memorable experience as you will get to see an exotic panoramic view of snow-capped Mt. Langtang and Ganesh Himal Range before landing in Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport. Our team will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel in a private tourist Bus. We meet in the hotel at 18:00 pm and leave for the restaurant for a welcome dinner with culture dance.  In welcome dinner, your guide will brief you about the day program of tomorrow and later escort you to your hotel.

Day 02: Full day Sightseeing of the UNESCO world heritage sites Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur 1,350 meters (4,429ft), with tour guide in private vehicle:

Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal. Being a popular destination for tourists, trekkers, and adventure seekers, Kathmandu has got a lot to present and includes several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city presents a wonderful blend of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence inside the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur are its two major neighboring cities which bear immense historical, cultural and religious significance. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous & biggest Hindu shrine Pashupatinath temple, the largest Buddhist stupa in town Boudhanath, the 15th-century palace of 55 windows Bhaktapur and Swayambhunath stupa.

Day 03: A scenic bus journey to Chame 2,670 meters (8,760ft), about 250 kilometers, 11 to 12 hours. Stay in lodge:

Today, we will drive to Besisahar– Chame, the headquarter of Manang district. The drive will be scenic and long. On the way, we will get to see stunning mountain terrains such as Ganesh Himal Range, Buddha Himal, Rani Peak, Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli, and Manaslu. Moreover, the route will also present scenic views of white rivers, streams, lush green hills, cultivated terraced lands, and small villages.

Day 04: We set off our trek to Pisang village 3,200 meters (10,498ft), 4 hours of walk. Overnight in lodge:

From Chame, we have to options to reach Pisang either by walking along the newly opened road or by jeep. If we take a jeep, we will reach there in around 30-45 minutes, whereas, on foot will take around 4 hours. Pisang is a beautiful village resided by Tibetan Buddhists. From today onwards, we will leave the tree line and gradually ascend towards the snowline. After checking in our room, we will hike to the Upper Pisang to gain altitude. As we will trek, the spectacular view of Annapurna II [7,937 meterss/26,040ft], Annapurna III [7,555 meters/25,786ft], and Annapurna IV [7,525 meters/24,688ft], come to our sight. We will spend overnight in a lodge (including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service).

Day 05: Trek to Manang 3,540 meters (11,614ft), along the upper viewing trail, 9 hours of walk. Stay at lodge:

Today is going to be a long day for us. We will begin trekking towards a Tibetan Gurung village, Manang through small villages like Ghyaru, Ngawal, and Chulu. Crossing a thrilling suspension bridge over Marsyangdi River, we will ascend to Ghyaru Village from where we will get to see superb views of back part of Pisang valley along with Annapurna II and Annapurna IV. Throughout the trek, we will get to see stunning views of Annapurna Himalayan Chain with large Buddhist chortens, mani walls, and monasteries. We will stay overnight in the lodge (including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service).

Day 06: Manang acclimatization day with a wonderful side trips. Overnight in lodge:

Today, we will explore some interesting places around Manang valley. We will hike up crossing Marshyangdi River to visit the wonderful Gangapurna Lake, and further, hike up to Deurali approximately 4,200 meters (13,779ft), for magnificent views of Chulu West Peak, Chulu East (Aka Manang Himal)  and others mountains. And, there are other fabulous side trips also like Milarepa Cave and Ice Lake. Especially, we recommend you to hike up to Ice Lake for the captivating Mountain views. As you hike to Ice Lake located ar 5,200 meters (17,060ft), to gain altitude you will notice marked substantial view of Manang, Tilicho Valley, and chain of Annapurna Himalaya. We will stay in the same lodge with as usual service.

Day 07: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp 4,200 meters (13,779ft), 7/8 hours. Overnight at lodge:

Leaving Manang village, we will trek through the village resided by Manangi people. On the way, we will pass by a few mani walls, cultivated farmlands, suspension bridge, monastery, Khangser village, and Shirikharka lodges. Further, we will cross a steep scree rockfall slope to reach Tilicho Base Camp located at 4,150 meters (13,615ft). We will stay in the same lodge with as usual service.

Day 08: Trek to Tilicho Lake 4,990 meters (16,371ft) and back to base camp 4,200 meters (13,779ft), walk 6 hours. Overnight at lodge:

We will begin hiking early in the morning around 6 am to avoid strong wind during the afternoon. From base camp, it takes around 3-4 hours to ascend the Tilicho Lake. On the way, we will get to see panoramic views of Mt. Manaslu, Ngadi Chuli, Peak 29, Mt. Kanggaru, Pisang Peak, Annapurna Himalaya Range, and other several mountains. As a matter of fact, Tilicho Lake is regarded as the world's highest lake. After spending some time around the lake, we will return back to the Tilicho Base Camp following the same trail.

Day 09: A fabulous side trip of Tilicho lake, back to down Chuliledar 4,200 meters (13,779ft),  5 to 6 hours of walk. Overnight at lodge:

While returning from the base camp, we will follow a trail above Khangser village and pass through the ruins of old Khangser. Following an unnamed trail will lead us down to a river where we will cross that river on an old log bridge between Gumsang and Yak Kharka. We will reach Chuliledar, our stop for the night (including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service).

Day 10: Trek to Thorong High Camp 4,925 meters (16,158ft), 4 hours of soothing walk. Stay at lodge:

From Chuliledar, the trail gently climbs up to the Kone Khola. We will cross this Khola on a well made suspension bridge, and further, trek through rockfall zone and frozen streams. In winter, we will get to see Yak and Blue sheep grazing in the lands. Finally, we ascend uphill on a difficult trail and reach Thorong High Camp. Overnight at lodge (including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service).

Day 11: Head out early in the morning for Thorong La pass 5,416 meters (17,769ft) and descend to Muktinath 3,760 meters (12,336ft), Stay in lodge:

We will wake up early in the morning around 5: 00 A.M., have a light breakfast with a cup of warm tea. After that, we will begin ascending towards challenging Thorong La Pass located at [5,416 meters/17,769ft]. Upon reaching the pass, we will see several prayer flags and stone cairns on the top. We will get to see breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and scenery from this pass. During the winter (mid-December to late-February), this pass is usually covered with snow.

 After spending some time on the pass, we will descend down towards one of the holiest sites of Hindus, Muktinath. We will reach Phedi where we will stop for the lunch. We will get to see dry landscape along with eye-catching view of Khatung Kang [6,484 meters/21,272ft]. Further, the trial from here will take us to Muktinath our last destination of the day. We will spend overnight in the lodge (including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service). 

Day 12: Trek to Jomsom 2,720 meters (8,923ft), walk 7 hours down to the headquarter of Mustang district. Stay in lodge:

From Muktinath, the trail descends to Kali Gandaki River. On the way, we will get to see a dry landscape. As we will trek down to Jharkot and Kagbeni (main entry point of Upper Mustang Valley), we will get to see mind-blowing views if cultivated land along with Tilicho Peak and Nilgiri. After sightseeing of Kagbeni village, we will descend to Jomsom, the headquarter of Mustang district following the Kali Gandaki River. We will reach the windy valley, Jomsom, one of the most beautiful regions in Nepal with many facilities like hotels, banks, shops, internet, airport, bus, and so on. In the evening, we will celebrate the completion of our trek with delicious food and dance. Overnight in lodge.

Day 13: Bus journey to Tatopani 1,190 meters (3,904ft), 3 to 4 hours. Overnight in lodge:

We will drive to Tatopani 1,190 meters downhill following Kali Gandaki River for around 3-4 hours by bus. Further, we will pass Marpha, Tukuche, Largung, and kalopani. On the way, if we begin to see evergreen lands with orange gardens that means we are close to Tatopani where we will stay overnight. Tatopani has a natural hot spring, which we can enjoy later to relax our body.

Day 14: Climb to Ghorepani 2,860 meters (9,383ft), through Shika village walk 7 to 8 hours. We stay in lodge:

After a short walk along the motorway, we cross Kaligandaki River over a well-made suspension bridge and climb up way passing the countryside and cultivated the lands to Ghorepani Poon village. Ghorepani is surrounded by green lush forests like oak, pine and rhododendron trees. It is awesome in early April to late May. Especially, the rhododendron and magnolia trees bloom throughout the hedgerows and the tree splashing the color of joy and tranquility. In April and May whole landscape is dominated by the flourished jungle of rhododendron. Today our day is exhausted yet, we will see fine views of Mt. Dhaulagiri [8,167 meters/26,794ft]. Finally, we reach to Ghorepani Lodge walking off 7 to 8 hours continue up way. We stay in lodge including dinner and breakfast with a hot drink service).

Day 15: Head to Poon hill 3,210 meters (10,530ft), for sunrise view and trek down to Hille and drive to Sarangkot 1,552 meters (5,092ft), bird eye view of Pokhara. 8 to 9 hours:

This morning, we wake up early in the morning and hike up to the Poon Hill [3,210 meters/10,531ft], the best panoramic viewpoint. From here, we will see a mind-blowing panoramic mountains views with sunrise at the top of Annapurna Himalayan range, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu Ranges. After some breathtaking views of sunrise of Himalaya, we will switch back to Ghorepani and descend to Tikhedhunga - Hile 1,430 meters (4,691ft), passing through dense forest and historical Gorkha army (Magar and Gurung) villages, lodges and cultivated farmlands. We finally descend down on a steep stone staircase and take a jeep in Hile to drive to Sarangkot. We stay in the lodge.

Day 16: Trek to Lakeside Hotel 820 meters (2,690ft), walk 2 hours vertical way. Hotel included breakfast service:

After an outstanding sight of surrounding green hills and gleaming mountains views such as  Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south, Lamjung Himalayan and others peaks, we will trek to the Pokhara valley with captivating lakes. We will descend down vertical way to the Lakeside hotel (including breakfast). Today is free sightseeing around the Lakeside.

Day 17: Full day sightseeing around Pokhara valley like Peace Stupa, David Falls and International Museum:

Pokhara is a picturesque valley surrounding by white snow-capped mountains and green hills. We can enjoy doing more exhilarating outdoor adventure activities in Pokhara like paragliding, boating, cycling tour, motorbiking tour, caving and mountain flight. Today we visit around Pokhara valley, Peace Stupa, International Mountain Museum, Lakeside, and Mahendra Cave.

Day 18: Drive back to Kathmandu 1,350 meters (4,429ft), 6 to hours by tourist bus and transfer to Hotel included breakfast service:

After the fabulous Annapurna Circuit Classic Trek, we will drive back to Kathmandu. The drive will be scenic and 6 hours long from Pokhara by tourist bus. We transfer you to the hotel upon reaching Kathmandu (included breakfast). In the evening, around 18: 00 pm, we will leave for Nepali cultured restaurant for a farewell dinner.

Day 19: Departure to Home, we drop you in international airport in your flight checking time and say goodbye to you:

Eventually, we drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport terminal room by private vehicle for your flight checking time and say you our last goodbye.
